RIB School Scheveningen

RIB School Scheveningen is the only coastal powerboating school of The Netherlands located in Scheveningen, The Hague. It is conveniently situated in the inner harbour, near restaurants and cafes.  And is within walking distance of the boulevard and the beach.

We are very proud of the location of the RIB School. There are 3 harbours in which you will have plenty of space to practice and improve your boat skills. You will learn how to deal with many different situations. You learn how to manoeuvre the boat in a professional manner always taking into account the boat and the elements.

The Rib School Scheveningen General boat handling course are recognised by the Coastal Department of The Hague Police and we regularly provide training courses for these police officers. Each year we also train the employees of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment.

RYA Powerboat Courses

We run all our powerboat courses with a maximum of 3 students in each boat to ensure that everyone gets plenty of time at the helm. All our courses are given on our RIB Humber Ocean pro (8m) with Yamaha 250 HP.
Every year our boats are checked by an RYA inspector and all our equipment is in very good condition.

Level I

The aim of the course is to provide a practical introduction to boat handling and safety in powerboats.
The Level I course includes:

  • boat preparation
  • boat handling at slow and high speed
  • mooring alongside and on a buoy
  • launching & recovering off a trailer
  • safety, and basic rules of the road

We aim to spend most of the day on the boat so after a briefing and introduction ashore we get kitted up and onto the water.

This is a really good introduction to powerboating – no previous knowledge or experience is required, so this is a great course for those who are not skilled enough yet to start with thelevel 2 course, and for those who just want a shorter taster than the more comprehensive two-day level 2 course.

Your level 2 certificate can also be exchanged for the International Certificate of Competence (ICC) for vessels up to 10 m / 33ft.  The ICC is only available to people aged 16 years+ who are either British Residents or British Passport holders, Residents of the United States of America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or residents from outside the UNECE countries.

UNECE countries:
Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan.

CEVNI stands for Code Européen des Voies de Navigation Intérieure. If you plan to use a boat on the inland waterways of mainland Europe then you probably need both an ICC and a CEVNI endorsement (N.B. you cannot have a CEVNI endorsement without first obtaining an ICC).

We also offer the CEVNI (European inland waterways theory) test for € 35,00 per person to anyone taking a practical course with us.

How to get the CEVNI endorsement added to your ICC is quite straightforward. There is a short test which takes between 15 & 30 minutes involving a series of multiple choice questions. There is no course for this, just a book of rules & regulations which you need to learn before coming to take your test. We have copies of the RYA Inland Waterways Regulations in stock, and you can book a test at a time to suit you.
